DFW Japan Society’s 11th Annual Mochitsuki New Year’s Celebration

Amy Chae, a former JET who now works at the Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth, would like to invite any Dallas/Fort Worth area JETs to their 11th Annual Mochitsuki New Year’s Celebration on January 16th. An event flyer can be found here.

A note from Amy:

Celebrate the New Year Japanese style with the Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth. Enjoy demonstrations of mochitsuki (pounding sweet rice with a mallet and mortar to make rice cakes) and sample the end result with anko, kinako, nori, or Sendai’s special zunda-mochi. The afternoon will also feature live performances by taiko drummers, a children’s choir, traditional Japanese dancers, and a kimono demonstration. Other activities include New Year’s games for children, origami, calligraphy, and ikebana.
